Thoughts for another day

Aug. 8, 2011

Today's verse: Sir. 47:22a. But God does not withdraw His mercy nor permit even one of His promises to fail, (New American Bible)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Jesus looked at the crowds on the mountain where they were sitting and He was giving them pearls of wisdom they had never heard and He said to them, 'Let your yes, be yes and your no, be no, for anything more comes from the evil one.'  He wanted them to understand that the words they spoke were important and held meaning in their own lives and in the lives of the ones they spoke to.  And Jesus lived that way; whatever He said, He did and whatever He spoke, He lived in His life.

Today our Scripture points to the fact that our Father in heaven speaks and He does it. We call them promises, because God's yes is a 'YES' etched in permanency and is for always.  If He has endorsed light in your life, it doesn't matter if for a brief moment you see darkness for quickly the light will shine for that is His promise and He is able to make each of His promises come to life even when there seems no sign of hope.  God is simply, ABLE.

God works on our behalf even if we're sinful for His mercy is great and overflowing to His children.  There's never a day on the face of the earth when God's mercy is spent for it's always there and new every morning.   As His children, we just have to hold on to His promises for they are real in this world.  Many times you may see the exact opposite of what His promises dictate, but that is how God's power is seen in its fullness.  Do you recall Joseph, A man who dreamt that his father and brothers would bow before him?  What happened with him? Oh, first he was dumped in the ditch, then sold as a slave and then imprisoned.  Imagine the poor man; what he would have thought?  But the day came when God, in an instant, raised him above them all and made him ruler of an established nation.  So will God do for you if you hold on to His promises and cling to Him.
