Sept. 30, 2009

Today's verse: Job 12:10. In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

My soul is the center of my being. In fact it is me. And it is my soul that lives into eternity, i.e, it leaves my body and becomes free to be sent either to dwell with the Lord or with the devil. My soul is the center of my being and it is me. Most of us know this to be true because we’ve heard sometime or other, of a ‘soul’ and wondered about our own and how it would be after we die. There are times I’m filled with dread about where I will be after I die and this ‘I’ is my soul which alone lasts into eternity from everything I’ve got. Our bodies are nothing without our souls. As an example if Robert’s dead body is laid in the coffin, we still say Robert is gone, because what’s there in the coffin isn’t Robert but what constituted the shell in which his soul lived.

The Good News for us today is that God has our souls in His hand and even our life breath. If there is danger somewhere, people may warn you not to go there, but remember, God holds your breath and till He takes it away, you are alive and nothing can make you die. It is He who keeps you alive even after a disastrous accident in which many may have perished. He keeps you when the floods drown all around and He keeps you even when the entire town has been destroyed. He alone is the one who decides when you will die and none else. Besides, since He knows your heart even before He founded the world, He knows the destiny of your soul. That should be a great comfort to us because He knows our destiny and being merciful, He can and will change it even when we approach Him in the last minute – remember the thief hanging on Jesus’ side who was sent to Paradise?

My friend, this message is for you if you are afraid of death or the destiny of your soul. Remember God has the ultimate say. If you’re worried or afraid, approach Him in confidence and make it known to Him. He will deliver you from it and you can rest assured that as you stay with Him, your soul won’t depart from near Him and your breath will only cease when He wants.

Today's verse: Jer. 18:6. O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

God is the eternal potter, the designer of each one of us. He fashions us even in our mothers’ womb to be delightful and we are gorgeous in His eyes; Our perfection gleams in His eyes, and He looks at each of us and says, ‘very good’. No matter what color we are or what stature we stand up to, we are perfect in His sight. God’s view of perfection is different from ours. He views our measure of perfection as a barometer of blessing to others. Look at a little child and you will find yourself imagining the beauty of it and in turn you will be pleased in your soul, blessing Him. We may consider some little child as being inadequate in human terms, for the child may perhaps be physically or mentally challenged and therefore, a burden. Yet, for God that one is a work of perfection, for others by that child will bless Him for what they are and recall His multitude of blessings! That’s where the purpose of God in creating us is defined because remember, each one of us is here with a purpose the chief being that we need to proclaim His Good News to others.

We are happy to consider ourselves perfect in His sight for a while and then the rigors of the world set in our souls. Externally, we may be beautiful, yet in God’s sight, we’re disgusting for our insides are corrupt. In simple terms, we’re anathema and distasteful, contrary to what the Master Creator created us for and we alienate ourselves from Him. Therefore, God is telling us today that we’re clay and asking us, ‘Can I not treat you like clay in the hands of the potter?’ The potter fashions the clay into whatever he desires, so too God can make us what He wants us to be. The process may be hurtful, yet, when completed, we can become a vessel of honor. But remember, He can also destroy us as the potter destroys some of the clay which he finds ‘un-malleable’.

My friend, yield to the Lord today and in giving yourself to Him, learn from Him to be as He is, so that you can be a vessel, honored and treasured in His Mansion.

Today's verse: Amos 9:6. It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

We sing the song, ‘Our God is an awesome God.’ We rejoice in Him for His awesomeness which is there for all to see. In the morning when the sun rises and the earth is filled with its brilliance, we marvel at God’s Hand which created the sun and set it in the sky to provide light to the universe. We see the deep blue firmament the Master Creator created with tranquility untold yet, with such thrilling hues so as to stun the eyes and titillate the senses. Even when it’s filled with dark ominous clouds we marvel at His amazing power that creates those clouds, so laden with water, yet staying up there, defying as it were, the Creator’s diktat of gravity; but then only the clouds are free from gravity and that too only till He rips them open and the rain gently trickles down thousands of meters to earth, but both man and animal are gently massaged by the ‘downpour’.

So also in the night the twinkling of the stars, tell us the story of the vastness of the Creator’s universe. They are so far away as to be blanked out from earthlings’ eyes, but they prevail in shining light adorned as design accessories across the cape of the night sky as only the awesome designer can imagine. Behold the moon with nothing reflective on it, yet reflecting the light of the sun onto earth! Don’t you think it is a marvel?

On earth we witness the greatness and wonder of the Creator in what we see: Huge mountains and rocks witnessing the passage of time mutely as it were; garnished with trees, little and huge as a canopy on these dry muddy mountains. Then we see the oceans with their majesty, sometimes gently lilting to the tune of the breeze and sometimes ferociously churning tons of water within seconds and destroying everything in its path. Tell me who can withstand the power of the waters when they are enraged; yet, for God it is water in a little basin. Such is the Majesty of God my friend and He declares it today in our verse. So let’s bow before Him or may I say, fling ourselves on the ground before Him in awe and reverence and sing Him a song of praise.

Today's verse: Ps. 23:5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Sometimes, there are Words in His Word which intrigue. You wonder why they are there and at times, you just allow them to escape your mind, perhaps to get back later. This verse is such a one. It breaks from the steady flow of David’s confidence in God delivering him from all evil and puts him on a different tone where he understands that God will not only rescue Him from the clutches of danger, but will also raise him high before his enemies. Further, David asserts that God will anoint him so much and give him so much joy that his life will overflow with blessings.

How does my confidence look before God this morning? Is it like David’s confidence? Or is it a mere passing-by confidence as most of us tend to have, which is no confidence at all. A tree for support is one that stays firm when you cling to it in the raging hurricane that’s sweeping around everything in its wake; not one that gives way at the roots! So also should be my confidence in Him. Not giving way at the least problem, rather clinging to Him with even more force.

God inducts such verses in the Bible to tell us that He is a God who believes in delivering immensely to the one who trusts in Him. Remember, when we do all things right, He multiplies our blessings. To tell you about myself, I’ve started a pilgrimage service to Israel. As of now even after a month and spending quite a bit, I don’t have a single concrete enquiry. Yet, I know that tomorrow will be another day. There are many enemies out there who must be hoping I don’t succeed. Then there is God in whom I trust who will make it happen. Yeah, I know, He will set a table before my enemies laden with sumptuous offerings as on a kings table and He will anoint me awesomely that joy will fill me and even run over. Yes He can do that and I believe He will do that; not only for me but also for you dear child of God. Amen.

Thoughts for another day

Sept. 24, 2009

Today's verse: Is. 46:9. Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

There’s so much God has done in our lives; but do we really acknowledge Him for His work? Do we sit down and reflect and see His hand at work, gradually removing the bottlenecks in our lives? Have we ever tried to find out how things work to our advantage even when all around it seems impossible that it should work that way? But they do work to our advantage and mistakenly, we do not give glory to God…never mind, but raise yourselves up and now look at that Face of Christ looking at you with love and encouraging you.

He alone is God and He declares it in our verse today. In this we know that He alone is God because only He among those revered as God makes this declaration and no other, for all other so called gods are comfortable having any number of gods around for they haven’t any life nor any power in themselves. Their power is the devil, the one who harms our souls. But our God created and owns the universe and He alone is hurt when our reverence goes to someone who isn’t God for He alone is God and there is none like Him. You may not understand this, but just think if your own child were to call someone else, ‘dad’ or ‘mom’, how would you feel?

And our God is awesome. He wants to be enmeshed with our lives thoroughly, not to watch over us constantly, but to just fellowship with us and to guide and guard us. Sometimes we tend to think He is intrusive, but the Spirit of God is never intrusive and moves away very gently but is hurt when we don’t welcome Him. My friend let your heart be open to God today and allow Him room. Then see how your life changes as His peace will come to stay with you and His holiness will spread its cover on you and your family, even as His mercy washes over you.

Sept. 23, 2009

Today's verse: Rev. 21:6. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Listen to the Word of God…Ah, it’s a balm to my soul and it provides satisfaction to each cell in my body for He says, ‘to him who’s thirsty, I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely.’ I rejoice in this that the Only One who can give life now says, He will give it freely, so I can rejoice for there is no way, I can have eternal life but through His Mercy, demonstrated by His giving of His Son Jesus Christ to take my place and die.

You know, He is such a great and marvelous God. He holds all things in the palm of His hand. His vesture is splendor and brilliance and even before the world was formed, He was and even when it will end, He will be for He is the Alpha and the Omega. Time ceases before Him and emptiness is as nothing for He can fill emptiness with whatever He desires with just a Word. In solemn declaration, I shall say, ‘Oh God, how amazing and magnificent You are and yet You care for me, a worthless vessel of no value; and You consider me precious!

Oh how can we ever do enough in our gratefulness for this our God or how can we ever repay Him for all that He has done. But you know He doesn’t require anything of us except that we wait upon Him. He is pleased as He hears our footsteps approaching His dwelling place – whether we move towards the church or to a prayer room or to a prayer designated room in our homes, or even retreat into the depth of our hearts to seek Him. How beautiful and glorious He is and how tender is His look toward us, and I want to tell Him: Master, let me always be at Your feet, never to go out of the shadow of Your wings. Amen.

Sept. 22, 2009

Today's verse: Mk. 15:38. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Many commentaries have written many things on this small verse we find describing the event immediately after Jesus breathed His last. Many would like to discover new things such as, since the veil of the temple is exposed, which shouldn’t be, it’s time of apostasy and the end is near. But there are also many who have said that because the veil was torn, the gulf between man and God was removed and man could now fellowship with God unhindered.

What a wonderful thing the death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ wrought for us. The veil which the Gospels describe is most probably the inner veil obstructing the entry to the Holy of Holies, into which only the High Priest could enter once a year. When we consider this, we can hear the voice of God as if beckoning us to come before Him; something the average Jew in those days would not even dream about. Yet that very barricade was removed when Jesus accomplished His mission on earth and we could go meet God without fear.

Jesus’ awesome and mystical sacrifice anointed us with His special Grace so that we could now approach God with confidence - this is even exhorted in the letter to the Hebrews (4:16). Today, no matter our state of sinfulness, we can still come and sit at His feet; I am not even suggesting that we sin to sit at His feet but that He welcomes us even if we are in sin. Such is the love of our God that He chooses to be with us even when we have sinned. Of course the only condition is that we have the blood of the Lamb over us because then God does not look upon us as sinful but sees the righteousness of His Son and glosses over our sin. That is because His blood, pure and holy, is able to wash away every sin of man.

So go ahead and plan to be with God today. Mover closer and meditate upon His Words so that He then sends manna for your soul.

Sept. 21, 2009

Today's verse: Ps. 37:23, 24. The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

3 things are important before God: 1. Belief in Him and whatever He ordains for us, 2. Obedience to His will & 3. Living by His dictates, a holy and righteous life.

We will dwell on the third aspect. While we’re on it, I’d say the righteousness that can lead us to eternal life is not something we can generate for there’s no way we ourselves can do it, except by God’s Grace which flows to us because of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Having understood this well, we can then talk of living a life that can drive us into the circle of God’s favor so that He sends us a blessing and we in turn can be a blessing to others.

Today’s verse says the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord and that God delights in his way. Imagine, God delights in us when we do that which He wanted us to do in the first place. Sometimes, it makes me shudder considering the Beauty of our God, who’s so pleased with the small things we offer as sacrifice viz. when He asks us to refrain from gossiping about someone and we instantly obey. We know He is pleased because we are filled with peace immediately.

God is very pleased when we walk on the path He has set up for us, He then watches carefully over us. We become the apple of His eye and He ensures no harm comes to us and though He may send us trials (through which we could get to know Him better), He ensures that our feet never slip and that we are out of the path of danger. Know that we are His responsibility and He keeps His responsibility under all circumstances. It’s only up to us to keep ours.

Thoughts for another day

Sept. 18, 2009

Today's verse: Rom. 5:19. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Adam was created: Fresh and pure, completely rooted in God. His every DNA molecule reflected God and accorded complete glory to the Maker. Soon Adam sinned and sullied the gloriousness of God in Him. His DNA was stained. Because of Adam, whose DNA came to the entire human race, everyone was stained with the stain of sin.

Men carried that stain for centuries and centuries and the devil had a gala time in winning souls to himself, all the time mocking and scorning our beautiful God. But God wasn’t amused. In the fullness of time, the mystery held deep in God, was revealed when the Son of God came on earth as just one of us. He was sinless and unstained because He wasn’t contaminated by the DNA of Adam, since He was birthed by the Holy Spirit.

Now the second Adam came and lived with us. Yet in every walk of life, He didn’t sin in fact, He was so sinless that He could ask them, ‘Which of you convinceth me of sin?’ Jn. 8:46. No one could find any error in Him because He housed no error. His was ultra submission to the will of God and when they could find no excuses by which they could kill Him, out of jealousy they used the excuse, ‘The King of the Jews’. And what an irony, what they all along did not accept, Pilate reinforced (as His guilt on the Cross) for all mankind to see: The King of the Jews.

But importantly our reflection teaches us that in Jesus Christ the sinless Lamb of God, was washed the sins of mankind and Paul tells us that what was caused by one man’s disobedience, was undone by one Man’s obedience. The legal debt owed to satan by man was fully repaid by Man Himself. So what do we need to worry for or why should we be downcast in our souls for life has come to what was dead by the graciousness of our God and the sacrifice of our precious Savior Jesus Christ.

Thoughts for another day

Sept. 17, 2009

Today's verse: Is. 1:18. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Many of us will be filled with the pain of not being with God fully. We sin and fall short of God’s glory. We are far removed from His cover of glory because of sin and also because of the lack of all-the-time consciousness of God’s Grace upon us. Over a period of time, we become so callous that we even dismiss God as someone who is perhaps not real, nor can be depended upon. The reality however is that God is real; more real than you and I are. He can be depended upon when in any kind of trouble and even more than humans for He is always there because sometimes the one human we need most may not be available.

God is ever ready to help us and comfort us; when He created us, He assumed this role. He still believes in it because He had ordained things that way before creation. Only He wants that we return to Him from the heart and then He can release His awesome power in our lives.

Jesus came upon the earth, so that things could be set right, the very things that man had twisted to imperfection. God in His mercy yet wants that we are brought back to that perfection that He Himself wanted for us. In today’s verse, He declares, ‘Come, let us sit and reason together.’ He affirms that though our sins have sullied our souls, He will wash them clean and bright. You see, God usually begins with the soul for that is you and that is what you have for eternity which God wants you spend with Him. Even at that, God still looks after our needs and satisfies us with Himself only. What more can we then ask for?

Thoughts for another day

Sept. 16, 2009

Today's verse: Hab. 1:5. Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Though not addressed directly to believers, this verse can also be for us who have but little faith and that too, dwindling at most times. There’s God’s guarantee in what He says and of course His power will manifest in His Word for when God speaks, power emanates from His mouth and goes and does that which He intended.

All we need to know today is that God is going to work something fantastic. We may wonder and marvel at what is being told us for it sounds so unbelievable and marvelous. Yeah, would you believe if I told you that tomorrow, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess to the Name of Jesus as God! You may not and perhaps I won’t too after seeing at all that’s happening in today’s world. But then God is different. God speaks and it comes about. God ordains and it remains ordained. God defines your destiny and it is defined and none can change it. God gives life and takes it and no one may ask an account of Him for all are subject to His Word. You and I are but vessels to do the tasks He has assigned us and remember, in the walk of life, sometimes you may wonder at your calling…has God really given me this, you might ask? But hold on; He’s given it and He will accomplish it.

Coming back to our verse, I’ll say, God is in charge. He is the supreme Commander of the universe and His writ runs across the length and breadth of creation. His Word is true and will ever remain. Believe that something marvelous is going to happen to you in Jesus Christ and yes, He will make it happen. It could be something way beyond reality, but it will happen for faith in Him puts on the switch of His power and it occurs. He has said many things in His Word and by Him will stand each thing He’s mentioned. So just rest assured; for the God of the universe will set you on your way and accomplish all He has told He will. Amen?

Thoughts for another day

Sept. 15, 2009

Today's verse: Nu. 23:19. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Yesterday, when we spoke of David and his steadfast trust in God, we know that David trusted in Him implicitly. Now that trust was because of things David knew about God which he would have learnt from the Law (or scriptures as we call it) available in those days. David never had any reason to disbelieve God for he knew that what God said, He could accomplish, as He was God.

Today, by the Holy Spirit’s reassurance, I re-iterate the same theme. I’d like to take you to the Word of God which we hold dear in our hearts. We read it, study it and then hold it deep within for what? Is it merely because we want to flaunt His word or perhaps live it. Yes, living His Word is certainly appropriate, and I encourage it. But the Word of God apart from being a barometer to right living, also reveals the power of God. It is this power that we need to be constantly aware of. Whether we request God to use it or not, is a matter of aligning to His will, but we need to be aware of it, just like Jesus was totally aware of the might of His Father when He tells His disciple in the garden of Gethsemane: ‘Do you think I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall right now give me more than twelve legions of angels?’ Although He knew this, He did not ask for the help of angels as He knew it wouldn’t be right.

So, being aware, we must know that once God declares something, He does it. For God, there’s no impossibility. And there’s nothing to stop Him from answering the requests we make, when we make them with the umbrella of faith. All God’s promises are valid and all are to make living for His servants, full lives. Understand then today, that God isn’t Someone who just makes those promises and does not keep them, but He is mighty to keep each one of them. Just believe it.

Sept. 14, 2009

Today's verse: 1 Sam. 17:45. Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Faced with problems in your life? How do your address them?

Here’s a good way of facing them and I’d like to call it the ‘Davidic way’ because there isn’t a problem that can’t be solved when this method is used. The enemy comes with deadly weapons and great cries so as to frighten us. Just a small doubt in our minds is enough for him to conquer us and overwhelm us. But the Word of God stands as our guarantee. The Name of the Most High is our shield and His Holiness our guard.

Most of us learn not how to withstand the spears of the evil one, the destroyer of souls and that is why most of humanity, particularly believing Christians, is in disarray because they haven’t understood the method by which we can destroy the darts the evil one throws our way. You can and I’m sure you will conquer the spears of the evil one and be victorious, but mind you, they come with the sowing of disbelief and in your weakness. The devil is the master of deception and the father of lies and he knows well how to disarm us. When David saw Goliath, just the sight of the giant would have unnerved and scared him. But David did not allow his eyes to focus on what Goliath had; rather he focused on what God could do.

See, when you stand in the name of the Lord of hosts, the Most High, the awesome and mighty One, none will dare do anything to you. Yeah, they might try to frighten you, but never ever be frightened, rather stand your ground and declare the Name of the Lord and then the devil will know not how fast to run and where, for let me tell you, the mere Name of God is enough to frighten the devil out of his skin.

Today's verse: Ps. 71:12. O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

My Father, you are my portion and my cup. You are the fortitude of my being. Even as you reign over the universe and over every created thing Lord, be praised to the Highest and be clothed with glory and splendor. Lord, God of Hosts, Thou which art awesome and fearsome let Thy kingdom come and Thy will be done on earth exactly as it is in heaven.

Oh Lord of hosts, great and mighty God who walks on the wings of the wind and treads the clouds in the heavens; at whose approach mountains melts and the seas run for cover, O Living God, glorify Thyself as unto the covering of the waters over the seas and let the whole universe be filled with Thy glory. Let every gigantic thing and even the smallest recognize Thy sovereignty over the universe, for none has been, but by Thee.

Lord God who smites the wicked and saves the righteous, look upon Thy servant covered with the righteousness of Thy Lamb. I am but dust; stray vapor in the morning which is not, as the sun comes out. In the abundance of Thy mercy O Father, create in me a new heart, and restore a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, nor let Thy wrath extinguish me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation so that my cup brims over and my head is anointed by the oil of gladness as was Aaron’s. Oh Lord God, be Thou a shield to me and those who I deem as mine. Help me walk in Thy ways setting my face like flint, looking only upon Thee and none else. Thy Majesty, stay not far from me my LORD, but hasten to send Thy help; for my heart cries unto Thee my God and my being craves for Thee in this tribulation I bear and no solace comes my way. Dear Father, I remember Thy mercies of old and I pray to Thee for victory. I wait so that soon in the gladness of my heart I will sing unto Thy Name and proclaim Thy glory in the assembly of the nations of the earth. So LORD my Lord, come, refresh Thy servant and let me live in Thy favor, Amen.

Sept. 7, 2009

Today's verse: Lk. 10:2. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Jesus made this statement when He sent 72 persons to various places, taking His message. He then knew that the harvest was great and the laborers to reap were few. Therefore, He asked that they pray God send laborers into the harvest.

What’s the situation today? The same; in fact, worse than those days. It’s estimated there’re 2.1 billion Christians in the world. Of these how many are really Christian? Among these, how many are believers? Of the believers, how many are interested in doing God’s work. Among these, many opt for simple tasks like pastoring a church or religious vocation or work for the poor at a particular location, etc. Very few go places, preaching the Gospel. It requires guts and great commitment to do it because you don’t know what’s gonna happen to you, any day, anytime. The risk is very high and the resultant benefits, worldly, if I may add, are usually small and unpredictable.

Therefore, I find many Ministers and Ministries claiming to preach the Word, but usually to closed audiences in fancy grounds or large arenas complete with air conditioning, etc. But few are on the move, in the field, taking the precious Word of God to the most unreachable parts and it’s these people God wants today. I know the price is much and the response to this Ministry will be low. Yet, God’s blessings are abundant on the life of these persons. Pray my brothers and sisters, lovers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that God raise many people who will consider this sacred task as the reason for their lives so that Jesus’ command of preaching the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth will be fulfilled; in His Name.

Sept. 4, 2009

Today's verse: Ps. 69:32,33. The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God. For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

In the Lord, there is no dearth of comfort and pleasure although never like that which man can give which may seem so sure but seldom accrues. Always and always, I shall say that if you seek God, there’s His promise waiting for you. I have seen countless number of people suffering and in misery but rarely seeking God. Why may I ask? Is God far and not close at hand? Paul gives the assurance (Acts. 17:27, 28) that He is a God not far but very close to us, so much so that in Him we live and move and have our being. Yet, when man is in strife, there is one, who’s never held close!

Very often people tell me, brother please pray for me. Oh, yes, I will, I say, but then why don’t you bang the doors of God? To this, the oft repeated answer is, Well, God listens to you but not to us! Is God partial? NO, He isn’t. His nature is true and His promises are for everyone, not only a clutch of people, but to everybody who seeks Him and this ‘seeks Him’ is nothing but a yearning to hold Him close.

My friend, if you believe me today; even if you don’t believe me, believe the written Word, the Good Book, the Bible, God is there for those who seek Him sincerely. Ardently get on your knees and plead your case before Him and your heart shall live, because He hears the downtrodden and His eyes are of tears at their plight. He never despises those that are His own. How many times, will He tell you this, oh you of slow understanding. Today, stand confidently at His ramparts and call out to Him. He will hear you and grant that which you ask for. Amen.

Thoughts for another day

Sept. 1, 2009

Today's verse: Eph. 1:12. That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

If you’ve wondered why you’re here on earth or what your purpose for being on earth is, then the above verse is telling you why. We’re here so that we can proclaim the praise of His glory or His awesomeness or goodness. God has created us and He can fill us with His sufficiency. He is always there for us and therefore, there is nothing else we need to do. The fact that Adam sinned and fell out of His specter of blessings doesn’t mean that things change; for God is merciful. Yes, the Lord said that the ground would be cursed and would yield fruit only by hard toil, yet, He can and does provide even when we are least bothered with the task of using our means for food. Don’t we see this in the desert when the Israelites move away from Egypt? Didn’t He feed them ‘manna’?

My friend, with the coming of Jesus Christ, this saying of God is even more proved in that God is able to provide. Yes, He does want us to do the little bit that we are capable of doing. But that doesn’t mean we fret and fume and worry ourselves to death about where our meals will come from, rather we wait patiently on Him and He will fulfill the desires of our hearts. Jesus’ feeding the multitude with just a few loaves of bread and fishes, proves that God isn’t too concerned about our needs for He can easily provide them; rather God is concerned about our eternal destiny for that spells our death if we stray away from Him.

What we are called to do is sit at His feet and gaze at His face and revel in the beauty of Him. Whoever has done that has experienced not only the awesomeness of His glory but has also been blessed fully with whatever belongs to the realm of riches in the world. Remember, God can do the impossible and He loves to do it for us if we but trust Him and allow Him. One thing which pleases Him immensely is when we praise Him and glorify His Holy Name, for that is why He created us so that we could assemble around Him and praise Him and He in turn would take our hands and fashion the most beautiful things no eye has seen nor ear heard, and give to us to please us for that is His nature and that is His will. Amen.
