Thoughts for another day

May 3, 2011

Today's verse: Mt. 16:13b. he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Many years ago Jesus asked His disciples an important question – Who do men say I AM?  Then He asked, who do you say I AM?  And Peter turned to Him and said, You are the Christ, the Anointed Son of the Living God.'  The answer so pleased the LORD that He conferred on Peter the distinction of being the rock on which His church would be built! (Mt. 16:13-19).

That was long ago, but today too Jesus is asking each one of us, first of all, 'Who do you say I AM?'  And next, 'Who do men say I AM?'  Both are important questions in the context of the developing canvas of eternity which is I believe, fast moving toward completion even as we're headed toward the rapture and the coming of the Son of God on the clouds of heaven.  First, what's your opinion: who do you think is the Christ?  Knowing Him, you know He is the binding gel of our bodies; the source of our strength and knowledge. He is our Redeemer, our Savior through Whom, we have eternal life.  Mind you, this only if you know Him, else He isn't because you don't know Him, for of a truth when you will stand, before the judgment seat of the Most High, He will say, 'I don't know you.'  Believe me, it's a terrifying thing to be told that.  I hope God gives each one of us the deeper knowledge of how infinitely frightening it is to fall into the clutches of hell.  So if you don't know Him, get to know Him while there is time.

The next of course is, Who do people say He is.  Now if your answer is, 'I don't know', or if it is 'they don't know', then it's again dangerous for you because you've not been obedient to the Great Commission: 'Go to the whole world and proclaim the Good News.'  Maybe you felt it's not your job, but let me tell you, it's everybody's you included.  And if you've not done your job or at least set your heart on doing it, you are in trouble for truly He will ask you that day, Did you do my work?  And again it is rather petrifying to stand before Him the God of glory and say no.

Recently as I was watching television, I heard an evangelist say that he asks people a simple question, 'What do you think of Jesus.' And that's the beginning point from where he talks about Jesus.  I have noted this question and I'm certainly going to be asking it of people I meet and then talk about Him having broken the ice so to say.  Will you follow me in this?
