Thoughts for Another Day

May 25, 2011

Today's verse: 2 Kgs. 19:31. For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. (KJV)

God is highly and intricately involved with His people.  He is there for us though we bring Him to tears with our actions and our denial of Him day by day.  He tests us through fire for He wants us to be purified and able to reign with Him in His Kingdom.

The testing is necessary to bring us back to our senses after we have strayed from Him and gone against His edicts.  There's a whole lot of nonsense we do when God blesses us and keeps us for it is always seen that when things are going right, we are going away from Him.  Our prayer times with Him are reduced and we find that we do not even want to be with Him.  Apart from this, sin increases in our lives and though we don't know, it starts decaying the soul.  God in His mercy then provides chastisement to save our souls for He knows that temporal punishment would be necessary to save us for eternity.

Why does God do it?  Would we have bothered if we were to be Him?  He does it primarily because He loves us and because He is holy, He wants us to be holy.  His holiness is key in making Him turn us back.  His holiness provides for His zeal to make us remain and not fully perish and it is His zeal for us that we can hope on to be restored.  For His zeal is toward us; and it is this zeal that has given us His Son Jesus to pay for our sins, so that we will eventually come to be with Him.  Isn't this Good News enough for us to leap in joy and go give it to others?
