Thoughts for another day
Dec. 6, 2007
Today's verse: James 1:27. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
Our verse for today gives us a pointer to the pure form of our religion. To be honest, it is very easy for me to write this reflection but to keep the Word is difficult. For that matter even caring for the orphans and the widows may be possible but keeping oneself unspotted from the world is literally impossible. Because, we know that today, the world is filled with moral decay and we are all in touch with it and succumb to its lure, this mind you, even if we don’t want to!
But we are expected to live the Christian life. Therefore, it becomes rather pertinent that we keep ourselves in line with what is required from us by God. Caring for the poor, particularly orphans and widows, moves the heart of God. Sometimes I feel, the more we are concerned about those who are helpless, the more is our own happiness quotient, not to forget, more is God pleased with us. Also, I keep reminding myself that maintaining purity and becoming a sanctuary for the Lord cannot be done with one’s own strength but it is a factor of moving along with the Holy Spirit in becoming what we need to become.
So for today, we pray for each of the readers of this reflection asking God to grant us the strength by His Spirit in the inner man to change and be what He wants us to be. Then some day as we are given the white raiment, we shall be found worthy to wear it and dwell in His presence.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
