Thoughts for another day

Dec. 5, 2007

Today's verse: Is. 43:2,3. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: (KJV)

Today morning as I was getting ready, my mind was furiously thinking about the so many problems I faced at work – more in coordinating with people within my office, than anything else and the many failures that can happen. Then, as is my habit, I started telling God about how my performance depended on the people I work with and also about the fear of failure I faced because of the systems, etc.

Then God slipped a thought into my mind: Was He not with me many times in the past when I faced difficult situations? Each time I came out of them successfully; though while going through it, the situation seemed tough. Yes, it struck me hard: the way God worked. He takes you through both the rough and the smooth; the smooth, so you may relax and worship Him; the rough, so that you may rely on Him. That’s His way and He ensures that no child of His is ever in pain when walking through the rough. Through His Word, He has made this clear and today’s verse is a pointer.

Take your own life; haven’t you witnessed this often? Granted, you may have been troubled for a while, but redemption did come through no? And in that process, didn’t your faith in God your Father increase?

I was telling my daughter yesterday after God healed her from her stomach disorder in just one day, how we humans always wanted to run away from sickness or other troubles and we pray to God that problems not come to us. This is opposite to God’s ways. He wants that we go through the problem rather than circumvent it. Only then can we become strong. Only then will we rely on Him. The Jews before Christ, faced a similar situation. They had to rely on God. Being a small nation with enemies around, their only hope was God. The Bible amply speaks on this. We also find that whenever they were with God, none dare touch them, but when they forsook God, their enemies slaughtered them. God left them no option; they had to be with Him.

The same is true even today. So, no matter what your trouble is, wait on Him and let Him deal with it. Understand that He will bring you out, unscathed.
