Thoughts for another day

Nov. 7, 2007

Today's verse: Jn. 15:3. Now ye are clean through the word, which I have spoken unto you. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

In the Bible I often read God calling me holy. Makes me wonder, why does God call me holy; because from what I understand of the word ‘holy’, I am nowhere near it. Rather, far from it. Yet I see God calling me holy and so the question, ‘why?’

The verse above provides in a small way the clue. I often tell myself, ‘God is holy.’ He Himself has said it so many times…Lev. 11:44, 45, Lev. 19:2, Jos. 24:19, 1Sam. 6:20, Ps. 78:41, Ps. 99:5,9, Is. 29:23, Hos. 11:9, …Therefore, He desires that I be holy too. Jesus says the same in Mt. 5:48. Now, to commune with God we need to be holy (that is be separated and clean) else, there can be no communion with God because one, God cannot look at us in our sinful state and two, our minds will stray and not concentrate on Him. He communes with us only when we are singularly focused and seek Him from our hearts. He is with us when we are HOLY.

Now the Word of God is Jesus Himself and in His Word he dwells and through His blood we become pure. This purity imparted by Him is enough for us to stand before God and worship Jesus because God sees not our sin in this case but the love of His Son. God can never forget the immense sacrifice of His Son. Now, we who believe in His Word and carry it with us are by our belief cleansed. Therefore, we can in confidence stand before the throne and call Him, ‘Abba, Father!’ This right is ours, given to us by our Lord and Master Jesus Christ.

That is why we know that what Jesus spoke when He called us clean in the above verse is true and applicable to our lives because He has erased all our sins by His blood and because we believe.
