Thoughts for another day
Nov. 6, 2007
Today's verse: Philip. 4:12. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
There is an amazing thing that happens with the one who is an ardent disciple of Jesus Christ. An inner steely resolve sets in which can surpass the greatest storm or the biggest calamity. St. Paul was one such person. If you read this chapter in Philippians, you’ll instantly note it and it is amply reflected in the verse above on which we are to dwell. Question yourself. Would you be able to say the same thing Paul says? You may say, ‘why should I be hungry?’ or ‘why suffer need?’ But there is a way of God we need to understand.
While I fully believe that the servant of God never lacks and also that God gives when one asks; take heed, there are times God sets a drought in our lives. A drought of finance or health or happiness, or peace in the family and whatever else might enter your mind. Also at this time, you may experience inner strife being unable to cope. What then will you do? Perhaps, you will reach out to the throne of the Almighty and ask, ‘why?’ and if you have that kind of relationship with God, which in a way, allows you to ask such a question, then you will hear God telling you, ‘Trust that I am with you.’
It is by trust in God alone that you can echo Paul’s statement. For God alone can work wonders in our lives. God alone can see the oasis in the desert, while you can see sand. God can look at the star, beyond your dense clouds. My friend, ‘being hungry’, ‘being in need’ are different states of being. They pass. Our focus has to be on God who never will pass. He is eternal and His power can turn anything around. In any situation of difficulty, let the fullness of God dwell in you and let your confidence in Him soar. Let the color of His ampleness be applied across your mind so that even in penury you will see plenty. Above all, hope in Him for surely, He will guide your boat amidst troubled waters.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
