Thoughts for another day
January 12, 2007
Today's verse: 1 Ki. 18:44. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. (KJV)
Many times I said have this, and I say it again, it is difficult to trust God when a trial comes our way. In the midst of pain and pressure, all thoughts of God usually vanish and the mind just thinks of how to get rid of the problem. But that is not the way a man of God must think. Rather one must sit down and put the situation into God’s hand. Talk to God. Tell Him about the situation and how much trouble it is causing.
I mention this as an example: there is a prayer request for a young person who met with an accident on Jan. 1. It is good to request for prayer for prayer works wonders; but I am thinking, has anyone who is close to the accident victim sat down before God and spoken to Him about the situation and how much pain he is going through and the consequent pain his family is going through, etc. Honestly, I doubt if anyone has done it. But the requirement is exactly that. Talk to God. I have often times done it in the face of extreme difficulty and impossibility and really, the problem vanished. I have now, done it for this young man and I know he is healed, Praise God!
Beloved, when we talk to God as One who is with us, it tells Him that we acknowledge His presence. When we tell Him that He can do something, it conveys our knowledge of His power; above all, it tells of our confidence in Him. It is this confidence that God can’t ignore. The Canaanite woman in Mark 7, presented Jesus with that confidence which made the Lord say, ‘woman, great is thy faith…’ Mary, His mother in Jn. 2, simply told the wine servers, ‘do whatever He tells you!’ and that even when Jesus had just told her that His time had not yet come… Ah, I tell you, more important than any miracle is ‘Confidence in God.’
Look at today’s verse. Reflect: seven times… What would you do? Give up the third time? But Elijah didn’t and so He presented His confidence to God and God released the answer to Elijah’s prayer! Now think, ‘am I greater than Elijah? No. So I will look even 8, maybe more no of times. And I will pressure the heart of the One who has the answer.’ Behold, if you do that, the answer will come as the little one of a goat comes gamboling down the hillside. A rupee, at a time, if, the crisis is financial. Or just the twitch of the thumb if paralysed…But, as the Lord lives, your answer will arrive.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
