Thoughts for another day
September 5, 2006
Today's verse: Hosea 4:1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. (KJV).
In today’s verse, we see a major indictment of God toward His people. And really I am scared because the last line says, ‘no knowledge of God in the land’. It is amazing that we, who are Christian, have no knowledge of God. What is applicable to the children of Israel is now to us. Do not think that this belongs to the days of Hosea the prophet for it belongs right now to us. The pitiable state still lingers.
It is ironical to see that some big preachers also have no knowledge of God and that is why there is much rambling and very little presence of the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit will only be found where Christ is revered. For Christ to be revered, it is necessary we know Him. God has put within our fold every means of getting to know Him and we must get to know Him. Living life as a Christian has no meaning if I don’t know Christ. If I don’t know Him, how can I live according to His ways? Come on now; ask yourself, do I know Jesus Christ? Didn’t the people in Hosea’s time also claim to know Yahweh God? In fact, they were pretty smug with the knowledge that they knew El Shaddai. Did they really?
In Hosea’s book God says further, ‘My people perish for want of knowledge.’ How true that is today. Countless no. of people, in agony, miserable to the core and writhing in pain. Dying, dying. On the outside, everything is fine. Inside, there is turmoil. All because men and women have chosen to, not know God. I say chosen because many are the times that God calls them, but there are excuses. It is sad and a thing of disgust that we know everyone else but God. We have time for everything else, but God. Preachers are soft on people and refrain from telling the truth because they are scared their sources of funds may dry up if by the truth people are hurt. Sermons are rosy and prosperity driven and the drivel is spared. Ah, God in Heaven must be sighing!
Cry oh you people, cry in shame for you do not know the Creator of the Universe. Which is why God says, even the ox knows its owner, but my people do not know me. It is really a tragedy. Imagine, the lung not knowing the oxygen it inhales. Or the tooth not knowing the food it bites…Sad. A very distressing situation and result of the freedom God has given us. My friend, if you have read thus far, reflect and see. What is your prayer life? Answer me this question, do you really know the God you pray to?
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
