Thoughts for another day
September 4, 2006
Today's verse: Lk. 8:45. And Jesus said, Who touched me? (KJV).
This morning as I was coming to office, I had a discussion with the Almighty. {There are times it appears to me that God is very patient with us and answers our questions although I could like Paul say, is the pot going to ask the potter, why have you made me thus? Or by extension, why are things so?} And I was asking the Lord, ‘Lord, why is there so much poverty? Why are the people suffering? Why are the backs of the defenseless so very laden with weight that they can hardly stand?’
The answer that came was. Because sin, is rampant in the world. I said, ‘Excuse me Father, but even while that is so, aren’t many innocent suffering? Aren’t those who are sinful making them suffer?’ Then I thought to myself, if we believe in God completely, how can we suffer and frankly, I have not heard of one who is a believer – I mean ‘believer’ who has suffered so that his back is broken. And I can say this with confidence, if you believe in God, then who can be against you. There may be situations of discomfort. But look not at them for redemption is there tomorrow. Look at His face. It is radiant ever and you will be radiant too.
And as the conversation went on, I started getting my answers.
In office, and I was to write this column and was looking for a scripture verse that could bring about my earlier moments and edification to those who read this and there, I am led to the above verse.
My friend, today Jesus Christ wants to use the same words: Who touched me? He is waiting that He bring healing to the one who is in pain. To the one who is ill. To the one who is over burdened with financial liabilities and so on. But our touch is not there. We are not about to dive through the crowd (obstacles) and reach out and touch Him. We are unwilling to kneel and pray for His touch. We are not willing to do the simple things that will jettison us with His power. In short, we are making ourselves ineligible for His healing. Countless no of times have I told people to do simple things to get their healing, yet they don’t want to do those simple things. Instead if I had told them to go to a far away place to an unknown person, they would do it. But, that healing is right at hand, is not palatable!
Jesus today, is waiting with healing in His hands, are you willing to touch Him. I mean, TOUCH HIM?
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
