Thoughts for another day

September 18, 2006

Today's verse: Ps. 119:105. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (KJV)

Over the weekend, a family had called me to come to pray for a particular situation they had which, according to them, was problematic and robbing them of peace. Wherever I go for prayer, the first thing that I try to gauge is the knowledge of God in that person or family. And invariably I find that there is either poor knowledge or none at all. And that is why, the problem even, as it was in that family. The Holy Word is God’s book on Himself and given to us to read and imbibe. It is called the Law because, in it, the Great Judge outlines some laws of life we are to live according to.

Most people who do not know God want Him to remove all the problems they face. Do away with the hindrances that are there and so on. But those who know God atleast to a degree (you will never know God completely) will accept problems and find His Grace to go with them leading to much happiness and soul lifting situations. God says ‘when you pass thro the waters, you shall not drown, when you go thro the fire, you will not be burnt.’ But we need to know both God and this, His saying.

My beloved, it is only the Bible that can give you knowledge of God. All preachers and others, including me will tell you about Him but only He can make Himself known to you; for He says, ‘ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you…’ No mistaking that my friend. You will find God when you seek Him and through His Word. Truly His Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, for in it I find the right way to walk this thorny way of life. Adopt His Word and bring light in your life, today.
