Thoughts for another day
September 13, 2006
Today's verse: Ps. 116:7. Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee. (KJV)
God’s Grace permeates the very essence of our being. Just as we cannot see God, we cannot see His Grace. But it is a potent power that resides in us and is at work constantly even though most of the times, we are unable to feel it or perceive it working in us.
As human beings we are at varying degrees of imperfection at any given point of time in our lives and we need His Grace to raise us to the level of perfection He wants us to be in. This seems an absolutely impossible task given the environment we live in and our own habits and traits. Many times have I prayed to the Lord, ‘Lord change me and let me be what you want me to be’ for I am distressed at what I see of myself. And I see nothing happening.
But like the sound of silence that is far louder than the cacophony of a crowded street at peak time, the assurance of God’s Grace working silently reverberates gently in my soul. I remember Paul saying, ‘The One who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.’ (Phil. 1:6) and also, ‘the One who calls you is faithful, and He will accomplish it.’ (1Thess. 5:24). Marvelous assurances, these. They enable life. Otherwise, what would be the worth of living, if it meant living without Him who gave His life for me?
And I am led to understand the verse of today. Truly I could say to my soul, ‘Rest for your God has been gracious unto you’. My friend, such is our God who has worked the impossible in our lives. We who were to be dead are raised to eternal life. We who were lost have been found. Our home in the Garden of Eden has been restored. It is because of His immense love for us. Remember this always.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
