Thoughts for another day

July 28, 2006

Today's verse: Gal.5:1. For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. (NAB)

Many of us believers are still to learn that there are many idols in our lives and things which enslave us leading us to lead defeated lives.

My friend, when Jesus died on the Cross, He set us free from every bondage. Sin could no longer have a hold on us as it did before and nothing could make us slaves to them, for we became children of God and therefore not enslaved to anybody. As His children, we are heirs according to the promise made to Abraham namely that the inheitance is ours in the Beloved Jesus. You and I are princes and princesses in the Kingdom of God and our task is to rule.

But somehow, we have managed to enslave ourselves to the evil one and to the works of the devil. We search high and low for that peace which only Christ can give us, yet, do not make any move toward Him even though it is easy. Things of God somehow, do not hold any fascination for us because the things of the world have blinded our hearts and minds and made us rather see the pathetic condition we are in and wallow in our misery. Where then is our victory? Where is our reign? Above all, where is that relationship with our God.
I often think of that song, ‘The world stands in need of liberation my Lord, it still has to learn to love…’ How true the words. But, for you and me, let that prayer be for the others as we take our lives and hand them over to God our Father and experience the riches of His glory. Let us emerge from the shadows of the idols we have created and enter the light of Christ, for He has set us free; and so we have no misery. Hallelujah.
