Thoughts for another day
August 2, 2012.
Today's verse: Ps. 26:2,4,5. Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart. I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evildoers; and will not sit with the wicked. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
The above is the prayer of the deeply afflicted and innocent and so is the whole of Ps 26 which is the prayer of David, the man after God's Own heart. He utters a cry from the depth of his heart, for something is moving within him to show his blamelessness for something that has happened and which shouldn't have happened. It also displays David's great ability to get before God and talk to Him 'face-to-face', an ability many of us strive to achieve daily in our prayers.
What David says in this prayer is also what we would like to say before God particularly 'I have not sat with vain persons…' and 'I have hated the congregation of evildoers…' One thing I've seen when we come close to God is, evil things begin leaving us. Where we used bad words before, now we can't. Where we abused and humiliated others, now we can't (unless provoked harshly). We don't even relish the company of those who're not right where a few months ago, we were also like them enjoying in their wickedness and relishing every moment of that dirty life. A subtle change comes over us which is overpowering and tending to keep us on the right path, though at times, we do stray, but overall there is rightness in our attitude.
This transformation in us is brought about by God in the working of His Holy Spirit, who moves us from one level of glory into another so that eventually, we reflect the brilliance of His Son, even as we sojourn on earth in the same atmosphere, around the same people, in the same circumstances but now with different mindsets which the Spirit of life has brought in us, to the Glory of our Father in heaven. Let David's words be our own today even as we look up to heaven, pleading with our Father to be like His Son.
