Today's verse: Ps. 94:19. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
The ways of the world and the way we move in it are enough to raise the bristles of man sometime or other in fright. Anxiety is the devil's most potent weapon to destroy us and he uses it even when there's nothing to fear or worry about. There're times when the mere thought of something is so frightening that it sets the heart soaring with fear and anxiety and today our Scripture wants to banish this by saying that our God, yes our dearly beloved God sends us consolation and this consolation turns the tables on our sorrow and anxiety and brings joy in our lives.
In the Gospels you'll find that Jesus knew about the anxiety we have; He admonished this trait even in the apostles when He simply asked them, 'where is your faith?' But, then Jesus knew we're but a stupid people and that He has to reach out to us in our stupid states particularly when the evil one pokes us and we get frightened. So therefore before He could ascend to heaven after His passion, death and resurrection, he promised us His Spirit; our wonderful and magnificent Holy Spirit good. When we accept the gift of the Holy Spirit, He comes flooding into our hearts and makes us strong.
For every dart that the enemy throws at us, the Holy Spirit not only teaches us to fend it off but to also attack and drive it away. Know this for sure that there's no anxiety that can hold us when we're held by the Holy Spirit. They say, sometimes, the fear of a thing can be more devastating than the thing itself; but when left to the Holy Spirit, I realize, He Who is within me and greater than the one in the world, will stand before me and all calamity, ensuring that nothing touches me. He will do that for you too, provided you look up to Him in sincerity and accept His comfort. Then like the psalmist you'll say, 'when anxiety was great within me, Your consolation brought joy to my soul.'
