Thoughts for another day

July 5, 2011

Today's verse: Is 51:12,13. I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the son of man which shall be made as grass; And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?  (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

What a wonderful promise we have of the Lord in our Scripture today.  He says, 'I, truly I AM the One who comforts you.'  He asks us a question, why should we be afraid of man who dies and withers away?  Think about it, isn't it amazing that we forget God and think of mere man who's nothing before God?  We're more scared of men who walk the earth but for a while, but don't fear God who is always!  God is asking us a direct question – when He is the Comforter, why are we afraid of mere men?

The Lord also knows that our nature is one of forgetting Him who made us and who worked marvelous deeds for the whole world to see.  He is aware that we fear continually, the wrath of the oppressor who is apparently ready to destroy; but whose fury and strength can be quelled by God in an instant.

This Scripture today is also a wake-up call for me, in that it talks plainly of God's amazing power yet, I ignore Him.  The bitter truth of our relationship with God is, we're more than willing to bring it to zilch when we've looked up to Him for support and are instead helped by men.  In this we ignore such a great potent life giving force of our Father who has created us for communion with Him and we negate all He has done in our lives.  How tragic it is that we're only concerned about the little things in life and ignore His great purposes?  Truly, I pray He, the Lord will give us the inner knowledge of who He really is and enable us to worship Him accordingly.
