Thoughts for another day

Today's verse: Hos. 4:1. Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. (KJV)

Who is like unto our God, Almighty and God of splendor and mercy, Giver of all goodness to His creation? God who puts up with all we give Him, usually our hatred and our contempt of Him. He holds the breath of our life yet we don't even have charity to thank Him nor do we appreciate His great arm to safeguard and keep us in this world. He is so concerned that He gave His only begotten Son, the Apple of His eye to redeem us from sin and death. Day after day, His constant gaze is over us to keep us from ruin and harm, yet we don't have the courtesy to even spend some time with Him.
Just as it's now with us, it was at the time of Hosea with the people of Israel, a people He had gained for Himself; who had witnessed the might of His hand and been rescued and kept in the Land flowing with milk and honey. He was their God and King, yet they gave no respect due to a God, a King forgetting how He had battled for them in their difficult times. His heart broke when He saw how hard-hearted they had become. He would have cried when He saw how their ears had become hard of hearing when He spoke to them. Yet, He did them no harm.
God bore it all along and He loved being called God by them and through Hosea, He made known the ache of His heart which told them that they - the people who He called His own, had no knowledge of Him. Even today, God's heart is torn and His eyes have tears. He waits for us to repent and come back to Him just like the Father in the 'Lost Son' parable. Today, if you're conscious of His calling, get up and go to Him. Your life will never be the same.
