Thoughts for another day

April 30, 2010

Today's verse: Is. 29:30. Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Yesterday I was reading an article where the author had touched the subject of ‘Trivialising God!’ Strange as it may seem, what he said in the article is true. And I may also add, dangerous; because those who ‘know’ God, know Him to be, an awesome God. The writer of the letter to the Hebrews says, ‘God is a consuming fire!’ Yet, how trivial we’ve made Him; how low a level we’ve brought Him to that sometimes, He doesn’t seem to be God at all but just a simple pastor or priest!!!

I’m a Catholic and when I go to church for Mass, I’m simply disgusted. The church which used to be so hallowed when I was a kid, is now not seen to be a holy place and by whom you might ask; none other than the elderly people who do all their talking in the church. There is no piety nor sanctity nor even the least fear of a God who is so awesome. They don’t even bother about people who’re trying to pray even when they know their talk disturbs them, yet they continue their meaningless talk. Hellos, hi-s and all the greetings are exchanged in the church itself. Even their prayers are like what our Scripture says, fruit of their lips and mouths but their hearts and minds are elsewhere. As for them, it’s just a ritual which is a one hour long ordeal and then over with it to continue their gossip. Even the prayer room I go to holds no sanctity for the people. At the least pretext, they talk and of course the pre-eminent cell-phone talk is part of life in the prayer room too. All this to me is so disgusting. And to top it all, these are the people who will first point out if you don’t go for church service or if you are not found in prayer meetings…weird!

Consider this my friend, were you to go to the chambers of a man in high position, would you even dare to talk out of turn, leave alone receiving calls on your cell-phone or talk to the person sitting next to you? When you go to church or the prayer room, keep in mind that you are going into the chambers of the Highest Authority on heaven and earth – how dare you then talk and commit sacrilege? How can you even think of doing something so irreverent? Your mouths open in prayer, but what kind of prayer? Just because you mutter something doesn’t mean you have prayed. I know it is a bit of a struggle to pray steadfastly for a long time, but it is possible and can be done. Let your prayer be sincere and coming from the heart and let your supplications be so strong that they touch the heart of the Almighty. Remember someday you will stand before Him trying to reason out your meaningless banter and at that time let it be that you’re not found wanting.
