Thoughts for another day

April 27, 2010

Today's verse: 1 Macc. 5:62. Moreover these men came not of the seed of those, by whose hand deliverance was given unto Israel. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

To each human being born on the face of the earth and whose heart is diligent toward the Lord, is given a task which he should perform. If a man has a particular task and he performs it to his best ability, God rewards this man and blesses the fruit of his labor. What he achieves is fantastic before the Lord and the man lives to enjoy also the fruit of his labor.

Some of us people, at times envy the work that another is doing. Particularly in the Ministry, we are jealous of those we suppose are doing the prominent work for example, preaching, teaching, etc. which puts them in the limelight and brings renown to them. On the other hand we are given tasks that are comparatively obscure and we are not even known to the others and at times we think that the task is demeaning in itself, say like wiping the chairs clean before the prayer meeting etc. where we would not even like to be seen doing it. So we don’t do our assigned tasks well, besides we are also not given what we like and therefore make a mess of our opportunities.

Our Scripture points out to the same today when it says that when the men not assigned to go to battle went in disobedience; they suffered a huge defeat because they were not meant to go. God hadn’t assigned them the task of deliverance of Israel and therefore they failed. All of us have been given a particular task in our lives and it’s important we find out what that is and then concentrate all our energies to make that task manageable and doing it, even excel therein. That will be our great act of obedience which will bring us much peace and joy in life and the blessings of God in abundance.
