Thoughts for another day

Aug. 10, 2009

Today's verse: Eccl. 5:1. Keep your foot [give your mind to what you are doing] when you go [as Jacob to sacred Bethel] to the house of God. For to draw near to hear and obey is better than to give the sacrifice of fools [carelessly, irreverently] too ignorant to know that they are doing evil. (Amplified. Copyright acknowledged)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Reverence to God for most people today, is more ritualistic than actually meeting God. You may say I’m judging, but the goal of my writing is more to exhort you and others to really go to the House of God to seek and meet Him which is the primary aim of the Spirit of God in bringing you to His House. Unfortunately, for most people, it’s a touch and miss situation. Partaking in all rituals whole-heatedly they yet (my God bless them) are far from God; they delight in vain repetitions which they deem to be prayers and chant many things to appease themselves. But to God, there isn’t an iota of glory. That’s why Jesus said, they didn’t recognize the time of their visitation! And also, these people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far away.

While on this, I’d say, perhaps most people don’t know God, though if I were to ask, ‘do you know God?’ I’d certainly get an ‘aye’, full house! There’s a thing called ‘pompous’ faith which deludes pretty strongly hence the ‘aye’ comes forth. That’s the whole problem and it doesn’t invite a solution because here, the mouth affirms there’s faith, while the subconscious knows there’s none yet the mouth being more vociferous, prevails. Hence, today’s verse comes to remind us that when we go to the House of God, it’s better to humbly draw near to hear and obey His command, rather than be content we’ve given big sacrifices which avail nothing, for what can you give to the One to whom everything belongs?

Lighting a few candles or kneeling before an image is of no use if the heart isn’t before God. It’s like a dead body worshipping. Today, if our devotion to Him is erroneous, let’s implore the Spirit of God to set us right before our God so that we’re not subject to His wrath but rather become eligible for His many blessings which He yearns to give us provided we come to Him with humble and empty hearts. That will be greater sacrifice by far, than one of many worldly riches.
