Thoughts for another day
Dec. 18, 2007
Today's verse: Jn. 13:15. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
When Jesus speaks, He never speaks out of context and always leads by example.
Our verse today is His saying immediately after He washes the feet of His apostles: an act, of sublime humility. In and through this act, Jesus has clearly made known His expectation of our behavior and living on the earth. He needs us to live a life of simplicity and humility. But sadly, for most of us including myself, this kind of life is a bit of a pain because we are so caught up with our own selves and have such self-illusions that, we think ourselves to be bigger than others even, if we see with our eyes that it is not so.
Across religions, you will find people laying claim to divinity and profess to be incarnations of someone or the other. But none advocates humility the way Jesus does. Every soul who has formed his own cultic following expects to be honored and respected, but not Jesus. The amazing thing is that only He was divine, yet like Paul says, He did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, nor did He try to establish Himself as ‘THE AUTHORITY’.
And so, if we are to be His followers, we have to learn to be like him. Let me tell you, it is not easy…but then, anything concerning The Christ is not easy. It is only our belief that, all things are wrought by the Father, that will carry us through. This morning as I was conversing with God, there was a little difficulty with a dictate of God in the Bible and as I queried Him on it, He told me that He works everything; He orchestrates even the falling of a leaf. Therefore, if there are unpleasant areas in our lives, we just need to understand from Him why He has placed them there. By His Grace then, He will carry us through so that we will rise above worldly things and following in His example, become victorious. Victory not as envisioned by the world, but one, that will last unto eternity.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
