Thoughts for another day

Dec. 13, 2007

Today's verse: Eph. 5:10. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. (NAB)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Today’s verse has a challenge in it for us. It is a challenge because I know that day by day, to walk His way is nothing short of a challenge because apart from His Word, everything screams to go against God. The people you meet tell you how ridiculous it is to pray. They say, ‘Brother, what can prayer do or your devotion to God too. Nothing has changed all these years and nothing will. Evil was there before and evil will be there so what’s the use of prayer?’

Yes, what they say is right. Evil will always be there until the day when the Lord will hurl satan into the fire forever. But we who belong to the Name are asked to keep ourselves pure before Him. Mind you, God always has a good number of people always devoted to Him. When Elijah runs away from Jezebel completely frustrated and prays to God to take away his life, God tells him that He has His people who are unsullied and worship Him alone only.

My friend, there is such comfort in knowing that despite the evil world we live in, it is possible to be good and please the Lord. Of course, the possibility is because of Him. But then He is such an intricate part of our lives that it is very natural for us to be like Him. I am sure there are many of us, who rush to help a stranger or wipe the tears off the eyes of a child. Or give bread to the hungry or comforting words to one in pain. Continue in it my friend for someday, before the throne, He will gently bow to you and wipe your tears and say, ‘Welcome, you My chosen one, no more tears ever…’
