Thoughts for another day

Nov. 2, 2007

Today's verse: Eph. 1:4. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

When I read this verse, I am a bit scared because of what it says…He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world that we be holy and without blame before Him in love. The question I ask myself is, ‘Am I holy?’

And I know the answer, which is what scares me. Maybe I can make a feeble attempt before Him by saying, ‘But Lord, am I not very concerned about my continuous sinning and aren’t the times many, when I have come near Your throne crying to you to make me holy and pure like You?’ But can I honestly say that ‘Yes Lord, I tried and I failed.’ I am pretty sure I can’t. That is the story of most of us isn’t it?

One thing I am quite happy about in the verse is that we were chosen before the foundation of the world. What a powerful statement: That God in His mercy considered us even before He created the world to be with Him and enjoy His bliss in eternity. It’s enough to light up my soul and make me wave the banners of heaven. And yes, also to sit down and think, if He wants me to be holy, then I must make all efforts in that direction. Surely, He will send His Grace, which will enable me to be perfect in love, just as He, my heavenly Father is.
