Thoughts for another day

September 8, 2006

Today's verse: 2 Cor. 13:8. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, (KJV).

Just as a, once in a while, examination of conscience is essential for the health of the soul, a, once in a while, examination of faith is necessary to gauge our walk with the Lord. As I have mentioned before, the bedrock of a Christian, is faith. I may even go a step further and say, if you have no faith in Jesus, you are no Christian.

By the way, I am not talking of a loose faith that says, hey I have faith in Jesus and the next moment says but I also have faith in so and so. They are many Christians who contribute to the theory that there is only one God but accessed through many names. This is no faith I’d say. For it is subject to the concoctions that the world serves and takes a contrary position to what The Bible says. And here there is no compromise.

Shallow and improper faith leads to doom. But faith unadulterated and ‘child-like’ yields rich dividends from God. The woman afflicted with the issue of blood was instantly cured because of her faith. The centurion, an unbeliever, found merit in His eyes for he believed. Peter tells the people that faith in His Name cured the lame man at the gate beautiful…so it is faith, faith and faith.

Today’s verse says, prove your own selves and check if you are living in faith. For Paul knew that when a man lives in faith, Jesus Christ is in that person. Faith makes it possible to dwell with God. God may test your faith, you have, but to persist. Soon the night will wane and day will arrive. And of a truth I can tell you, if there is anything that moves the Almighty most, it is faith. There you have it, the key to victorious living…FAITH.
