Thoughts for another day

July 21, 2006

Today's verse: 1 Sam. 2:9. He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. (KJV).

In the pervading darkness of the night when one thinks of one’s God and life, myriads of thoughts come to the mind. The fragility of life comes to the fore and you wonder, God why am I so feeble. I don’t know what will happen the next moment. If you think of God’s Word, you will recall God saying to Adam, ‘have dominion… rule…’ And you wonder, am I to rule, fragile as I am?

These thoughts need answers and God’s Word has them. When God created the world, He created it with the consideration that He would be the center. But man wanted to take that place; of course, with the connivance of the devil who in the first place fell because his pride contended with God. Thereafter, God left man to his stupid ways and did not interfere in his life. Yet, His heart was in pain! His hand always reached out when the heart cried out sincerely.

Man showed no desire to have God as an integral part of his world, neither did he want God to rule over him for he felt that God was an intruder (see Cain’s reaction when God asks him about Abel! Gen. 4:9). After the Jews were brought out of Egypt by His mighty hand displaying awe inspiring acts and settled in the promised land, they were initially lead by men, chosen of God who acted under His overall direction. Then they wanted a king. And God gave them one, however reluctantly… read His dialog with Samuel in 1 Sam. 8: 6-8. As time went on the people sinned. They were destroyed. Yet, they never learnt… And the same is the case today. We are a distraught and perverse people. Our wealth and status seem to be our rock and we feel powerful in good homes and secure with money, medicine and men.

Then disaster strikes. We are devastated. We decry God’s ways. We abuse the Most High and curse Him. God, as it were, looks down upon us in pain asking, what have I done to you?

In all this, what happens to those who are faithful to Him? They are safe. My friend, they are safe. For no matter what the world is about, none can touch those who have a filial relationship with God. Go through the pages of the Bible and you will always find Him saying that ‘He is a safe haven’. Your nest of comfort. And remember God is faithful and unchanging. The Rock of Israel alone can be your guarantee. If you are with Him my His message today is: FEAR NOT. If you aren’t with Him, go to Him today in repentance and you will find refuge for yourself.
