Thoughts for another day

May 1, 2014.

Today's verse:  Rom. 8:9. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further.  Thanks)

When you believed in Christ and accepted Him as your personal Savior, He gave you His Holy Spirit as a seal to your accepting Him cf Eph. 1:13, ‘When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.’  Therefore you became a child of the Father through Christ and have an inheritance in all things the Father has, and that’s a whole lot of inheritance in Christ Jesus.

However, because of our unruly and sinful behavior, we grieve the Holy Spirit of God and in a few of us there’s no turning back from our offenses, so He moves away from us to the cause of our own distress.  Then begins separation from Christ, as Paul says in our Scripture above; and while we live on earth following the wicked ways the earth has in store, we’re not bothered being separated from Christ because the lure of the world draws us away from His blessed Presence.  Eventually, we’re lost to God and found to the world.  We enjoy this scenario and revel in it for we feel it’s good until a tragedy or some sort of misfortune strikes us and then we want to move back to God.

Now for us who’re rooted in Christ, we certainly belong to Him even if we many times don’t feel His Holy Spirit within us.  You see, living in the world and being witness to its pseudo joys and glories, we sometimes move away from Christ, but His Spirit always whispers to us to come back.  And we move back and once again fellowship with Him.  My friend never hurt or antagonize God’s Spirit no matter what, for as long as He is with us, we’ll always be with Christ.  David dreaded the going away of the Holy Spirit from him and that’s why in his prayer of penance he prayed, ‘Take not Your Holy Spirit from me!’ Ps. 51:11. Let our prayer also be the same for we need God’s Spirit because in Him we find the strength to live.
