Thoughts for another day

Mar. 6, 2014.

Today's verse:  Micah 7:18. Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? He retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further.  Thanks)

When I think of God, there’s one character of His that comes to my mind immediately – His mercy.  You see, He is a holy God and as He is holy, He cannot, yes He cannot retain anger forever for it’s against the very grain of holiness to retain anger and therefore, His mercy takes over and His love flows through in oodles of bundling joy.  Although I must say that His holiness demands justice and His justice demands punishment.  But He has switched the object of punishment by offering His only Son Jesus Christ as the object in lieu of us and in that is His mercy fully known.

His mercy is so pure and unalloyed that the person who experiences it is simply led to unabashed tears at the thought of His mercy.  It takes my mind to the woman who anointed the feet of Jesus with precious ointment (Lk. &:36-50); imagine the joy in her heart which made her weep before Him and drench His feet with her tears and then since His love so overwhelmed her, she also wiped His feet with her hair.  So awesome is God’s mercy that it seizes the repentant sinner and makes Him cry tears of joy for the sheer experience of having encountered His mercy.

Therefore, Micah brings his inner thoughts to the fore with our Word for today – ‘Who is a God like you, Who pardons sin and forgives transgressions.  You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.’  Think upon your soul my friend and look into its deep recesses and see how He has covered your inner parts with His mercy; for your soul needed to go to hell, yet, He, having walked through the darkest valley of terror and torment and death, has readied the soft path for your soul to tread into heaven.  That’s how great He is and never forget: HE DELIGHTS IN MERCY.
