Thoughts for another day
Jan. 22, 2014.
Today's verse: Col. 2:6,7. As
ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in
the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read
further. Thanks)
There’re three things we
have in our Word as Paul tells us: 1. As we have received Christ Jesus our
Lord, so we are to walk in Him, 2. To have a firm foundation in Him and be
established in the faith as was taught to us and 3. To abound in this state
with thanksgiving in our hearts.
It’s wonderful if we put ourselves to
the task Paul has for us and while we’re at it, God will be with us, cajoling
us, encouraging and empowering us to move forward even as we walk in Jesus
Christ our Lord, keeping the precepts He gave in both the major commandments
viz. Love God with all your strength, your mind and your heart and love your
neighbor as yourself. Other than this,
Christ wants us to walk in the way He spelt out for us in the sermon He gave on
the Mount, Matt. chapters 5 to 7.
It may be difficult when we think of all
Jesus has asked us to do in terms of walking in Him, but then we have Him as
our firm foundation and He has established us in faith in Him, so walking His
way, isn’t going to be a lone and arduous walk, but one where He is there as
our Companion to talk with and cheer us on the way. If we trust Him, He is pleased and He will
show us wonderful things which we have never known and our walk will be that
much more pleasant even with the tares and thorns pricking us; for who can take
His love from us?
Having seen His mercy in our walk, it
would then be prudent to thank Him for what He means to us. See, He gives us the power to live, not just
frugal and dissatisfied lives, but bountifully and with joy in our hearts and
thus should our souls spring with cries of gratitude for all His works so that
as we live we will see His hand upon us and witness His great power in all we
do.
