Thoughts for another day

Sept. 4, 2013.

Today's verse: Zech. 8:6. Thus says the LORD of hosts: Even though it seems impossible to the remnant of this people in these days, should it also seem impossible to me, says the LORD of hosts? (NRSV – copy. ack)
(Pls. read the above before you read further.  Thanks)

The very words, ‘Thus says the Lord’ is enough to make us stand to attention to what the Lord is saying for it’s an authoritative saying and a saying that the LORD of hosts will bring to fruition at the time when He commends it to be.  For He is all power, splendor and grandeur and no Word of His can wither or be impotent and when His Word is uttered, all elements in the universe assemble to do His bidding…didn’t we see how each molecule of the water of the sea of Galilee, that raged up in audacious frolic, immediately settled in calm at the command of the Son of Man, ‘Be still!’

Here, after the exile of the Jews, the Lord says that even if it seems impossible for those remaining in Jerusalem that it should be peopled again with boys and girls playing in its streets and the joy and laughter heard again therein; it’s not impossible to Him, the Lord God of host, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for His hand reigns with power and might; unbelievable might and He can work out a solution even when every sense in human beings roars that there is none.  The might of the Lord will do it, is what the Lord is telling the people through Zechariah and He will do it.

Wait now; it’s your turn to trust the Lord to work on the impossible situation in your life.  The winds of destruction and desperation have blown the top of your head and you’re now weak in your life.  Your bones creak with anguish and your heart is shriveled with dismay.  But look up and see your God, the LORD of hosts, Yahweh Sabaoth is with you.  He has raised His hand and His power is picking you up right now.  Give glory to Him with a loud voice and shout for He is here to deliver you and He will not fail.  Glory to God in the highest.
