Thoughts for another day

July 29, 2013.

Today's verse: Is. 42:14. I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further.  Thanks)

This is God speaking: He is speaking imminent disaster for those who have forsaken Him; for those who have been playing around with all that is His, like His Law, etc.  He is aghast at all the people have done to Him.  Their ignorance of Him is woeful and their total disrespect tells a tale of rebellion, disobedience and mischief.

Israel had sinned against God and they had prostituted themselves with idols and adopted their idolatrous ways.  They had become a stink in the nostrils of God and yet they were not satisfied with their erroneous ways.  In fact, one could also say, they invented new ways to anger God and shame His holy Name.  God had given them warnings again and again and had let them fall in trouble constantly.  But when they cried out to Him, He had mercy on them and He saved them from their trouble.  But still their ways did not change and it is at this time that He speaks through Isaiah, the prophet, giving them a grim warning one last time.  Telling them again that, He has held His peace for a long time, holding Himself back from His judgment; but soon He will destroy and devour at once and bring out His vengeance like a woman in pain about to deliver her child; and His bringing forth would wreck them.

Indeed, God gives us a long rope.  The stains of our sins become murkier and murkier and He constantly warns us through various signs.  Some even bodily signs like a mild sickness or even some small failure by which He wants us to learn and return.  He works in us so that over a period of time, we are able to understand His warning signs, learn His ways and return to Him.  Happy is the man who learns of God and returns for then He will find the peace of God and God will be for Him a Tower of Refuge at all times.
