Thoughts for another day

May 17, 2013.

Today's verse: Ps. 55:22. Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.  (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further.  Thanks)

Most Christians come upon our Word today in their time of Bible reading and some even reflect on it.  Many even sing the song whose lyrics have this Word in conjunction with what Peter says in 1 Pet. 5:7.  But I ask you, how many really believe this Word and abide by it, specifically, casting their burdens onto the LORD?  A simple and quick answer is: not many because the times we live in and the nature of the world is such that we carry our burdens ourselves.  We want to solve our problems ourselves and we don’t leave space, of even a millimeter to the Lord.  Men do all they can in their life-time in their jobs and amass wealth, so that they can retire, as they say, peacefully.  Some invest in insurance schemes, etc. to tide unforeseen crises that may happen and so on.  The whole idea, if you consider the situation carefully, is to cut out God completely from us, after all when we’re the masters of our lives, what do we need God for?

I once told a person not to insure himself and he laughed me to scorn saying, ‘I’ve never seen a bumpkin like you.’   Mind you this person is a ‘believer’ – but he belongs to what I’d say, the special class of believers who only talk about God, but don’t really believe in Him for even a simple meal!  And such is the type which fills our churches today.  It’s a tragedy for we have an all powerful God of miracles; but no miracles and it’s so because we resolutely resist His miracles.  We’d rather have, ‘God helps those who help themselves.’ But when I ask, ‘Why should God help you if you can help yourselves?’ there is no answer!

Look at His Word in the Bible, it speaks reams of God having worked marvelously on behalf of people who prayed to Him and were unable to fend for themselves at all.  My friend take God’s Word as deep reality and test Him at His promise.  He will show Himself powerful for you for remember, God, the Sovereign God isn’t obligated to any human being or anything else.  But He is obligated to His Word…didn’t Jesus say, ‘Heaven and earth will pass away, but My Word will remain.  Believing firmly, no matter what the odds, cast your burden on Him and He will lug the load for you. Your righteousness will live before Him as He works out marvelous things before your very eyes.
