Thoughts for another day
March 21, 2013.
Today's verse: Daniel 9:19. O
Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own
sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
Two things in this reflection that
should touch your hearts as you read the Scripture today, wherein you will find
a heart-felt pleading by Daniel, a prophet of God whereby he asks God to
forgive and help Israel.
One, in prayer, Daniel implores God
telling the Almighty that he’s asking not because the Israelites are righteous
or anything like that but because of God’s great mercy; this is there in the
previous verse to our Scripture. This is
an important aspect of praying to God, for we tell Him that we don’t deserve
anything from Him for we’re such stupid creatures, offending Him
continuously. But, we implore Him
because we know He loves us and His mercy which flows like an ocean, never
ending, is always with us. When we
‘remind’ God of this, he works for us and does great wonders in our lives. These
wonders may not mean wealth, fame or standing, but simply peaceful and full
lives.
Two, Daniel reminds God that the city
and the people are His and are called by His Name. How much more today; for we Christians bear
the name of Christ. How much more will
His Grace flow to us for we carry His Name to the nations and reveal Him to them? How much more will God the Father work for us
for having accepted His Son, whereby we honor Him and His holy will. The Name of Christ is all we need to be secure
before God and the prayer that Daniel made can be repeated oft before God for
it pleases Him when we call ourselves Christian and place our needs before
Him. We must always remember that we’re
sinners and in need of God’s mercy and we accept the blood of His Lamb, Jesus,
to wash away our sins. It’s such a
glorious sight for a man to come before God covered in the blood of the Lamb,
which is what happens when we believe Jesus to be His Son and the Savior of the
world. Therefore, in steadfast
confidence we stand, imploring God to do away with our difficulties for we His
people, the sheep of His flock, bear the Name of His Most beloved Son.
