Thoughts for another day
July 2, 2012.
Today's verse: 1. Tim. 6:17. Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
The Word of God says in Ps. 24:1, 'The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it' and Paul echoes it in 1 Cor. 10:26 which means there's nothing on earth that isn't of God. Everything, I'll say that again, everything belongs to God and He chooses to do what He wants with it, for who can suggest Him anything or charge any wrong-doing as regards what He chooses to do or give of what is His, to one, and something else, to the other!
In our world, there're people so rich, they could possibly own countries if they wish by buying out lands belonging to those countries and even the people as slaves. This somehow goes to their head and being dizzy headed, they feel they're god, doing this and that, as if invincible and eternal. They put their trust in their wealth and go about life as if nothing can happen except what they purpose for themselves. Being so intoxicated with the wealth and the consequent power that comes with it, their minds have no space for God; and they ask, is there a God and is there any need to believe in Him? Now, what I've said here not only pertains to the ultra rich but amazongly, also to the common man who has a good job, a good family and good income etc. who is lulled in the brain to think he doesn't need God…we see many examples of these right in front of us, in our neighborhoods or offices or even in our parishes. But, really, can they be free of God?
Never, for God is the Owner of the earth and all in it, which also means He is our Owner. He gives to each man according to the expression of His will and that's why Paul says in 1 Cor. 4:7, 'What do you have that you did not receive?' Whatever we have is given to us by God; now whether we believe it or not, doesn't matter, for it is in God's hands to even take it away! We've seen how yesterday's tycoons are today's beggars and yesterday's poor are today, among the wealthiest. The Bible says in Sirach 11:21b, 'For it is easy with the LORD suddenly in an instant, to make a poor man rich.' So, it is vain to be proud and rely on the riches of the world; rather it's better to trust in the One Who created the riches and who lives and give us freely all things to enjoy and have an abundant life.
