Thoughts for another day

Today's verse: Lk. 6:31. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
This saying of our precious Savior Jesus Christ is fundamentally so true. Quite honestly I learnt it's truth only recently in my life for my pride, more than anything else, had kept it hidden from me. It's so simple, 'do to men as you want them to do to you'; and very doable don’t you think? If I need respect from my fellow human beings, then I must learn to respect them for otherwise their respect doesn't arise out of love for me, rather, fear and any fear in anything doesn't last long.
If we but listen to the saying of our Lord, then so many of our interpersonal relationships can instantly change. How many associations between us and others can be transformed overnight and it's possible by our just going down a little bit, no matter to whom, whether they be in the right or not, for building bridges is a very Christian thing and necessary, not the other way round. For years we have turned our faces the other way: If we feel the person is insulting us a wee bit, we don't even try to understand the reason for their behavior but just erase them out of our lives. And let's say, we go to a person who we feel needs our help and if by any chance that person says something we don't like, then we just walk out and resolve to never look at their faces. Is this what we want to happen to us?
Just think, how easy it is to end a relationship built over years by just a single sentence or action? Do we even pause to think that what we did to them, others will do to us? We feel so bad when we experience the same thing? So our Scripture comes as a maxim, today and I reckon we'll hold it in our hearts and resolve to do our bit in our worship of God, to be also a little humble to our fellow men and do to others as we want them to do to us. In that we will be doing God's will and He will reward us, even if the person we were good to wasn't good to us. Isn't the reward from God worth far more than any earthly reward?
