Thoughts for another day

January 16, 2012

Today's verse: Jn. 3:31. He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Jesus didn't belong to the world.  He came into the world like any of us but He didn't belong to the world.  He came from above and so He was and is above all.  He didn't find greatness in what is of the earth, for He knew the greatness of earth is nothing but fading or rotting.  He spoke things that belong above.  His Own listened and though they too didn't understand, they realized that to gain eternity, which is a surety by the very fact that we're alive; and that there's something within us that 'is' and will always remain and that 'something' will have to give an account of everything it did when God clothed it in a vessel of earth.

When Jesus came to the earth, the peddlers of divinity, the rabbis of those days, the Pharisees and the other custodians of the Jewish faith, peddled their own stuff which took that which came from Jesus Himself and twisted it to suit their ways of subjugation and coercion.  They peddled the truth coated in the sugar of their pride and avarice.  They did this so that they could lord it over the poor people who, before their hegemony, didn't dare to even question them, leave alone not follow their edicts.

Jesus was blunt with them for He came from above and He knew the above well, for it was created through Him.  But few understood the reality of the above; that's why when He tells Nicodemus 'you cannot enter the Kingdom of God unless you're born from above', Nicodemus didn't understand Him because Nicodemus, was schooled in things of the earth.  Therefore, Jesus tells him, 'if you don't believe earthly things, how will you believe heavenly ones?'  Now we who're thoroughly schooled in earthly things also don't believe in heavenly things although when the roll call of believers is listed, we're recorded as self-proclaimed believers.  We therefore need to bow before the Holy Spirit pleading for Grace to understand and believe with our hearts the things from above for if we're going to our eternal Kingdom which is above, we must be schooled in those things and not those of the earth.
