Thoughts for another day

January 12, 2012

Today's verse: 1 Pet. 2:11. Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

In our communion with God, the most essential thing we need to have is, holiness. I've been talking about this often and I'll talk about it again, for really if the Church of God is weak today, it's because she lacks holiness.  God doesn't abide in an unholy place and any blessing of His, is difficult to obtain when one is in a sinful condition.  Therefore, it becomes pertinent for us to imbibe the purity God wants us to have.

The stealer of souls in his perverse manner will lay before us the goodness of the world like riches, fame, sex and what have you and you start feeling 'oh it is so easy to get all those things?'  Then you do wrong – first small things, then big ones and then, even bigger ones; and even before you realize, you've sold your soul to the devil for a lowly price!  Among the wrongs that satan likes to forward as being right is indulging in fleshly lusts; providing the right stimulants like the most beautiful woman in your opinion if you're a man and the most yielding man if you're a woman and before long, you've fallen into an unchaste relationship and breaking from it is just impossible.

A few years ago, a friend of mine was so beguiled by the devil that she 'apparently fell in love' with a married man and he told her that he would divorce his wife (and separate from her and their little child, just two yrs. of age) and marry her!  This led to them doing wrong. Eventually their relationship was discovered and she was even sacked from her job.  Since I'm a good friend, I asked what led her to do such foolishness and even today she says, she just doesn't know.  But we know don't we? By God's Grace, she has been able to forget the man and has come back from the brink of disaster and lives clean now.  It's therefore essential that we learn what the devil is up to and draw a line when these things are concerned and not fall into his trap.  By thus doing, we will not only save ourselves from unnecessary trouble here but also be found right in His sight to gain eternal life.
