Thoughts for another day

Today's verse: Lam. 2:18. The hearts [of the inhabitants of Jerusalem] cried to the Lord. [Then to the congregation, I, Jeremiah, cried, addressing the wall as its symbol] O wall of the Daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night; give yourself no rest, let not your eyes stop [shedding tears]. When sin is heavy on us, the fierce burning anger of the LORD God, smites us with destruction; His wrath decimates us so that we disappear from the face of the earth. Yet, He gives us a warning of what is to be before His destruction comes. God had foretold destruction for Judah, that part of Israel which still remained before being vanquished by the Chaldeans. He had decreed through His prophets, the destruction of Judah, but they didn't listen. Then Judah was burned to the ground; her inhabitants were exiled and everything was destroyed. The temple of the Lord was razed to the ground and the Presence of God apparently had left from there. It was terrible for the Jews because they who felt that they owned God and that God would never do such a thing though He had warned them had finally brought about what He said He would.
Then the prophet exhorts as in our Word today. Cry out he calls, cry out everything within the wall or on the wall, to God for restoration for the suffering was immense, more in the soul than the body. He implored the people to not desist from crying out at any time so eventually the Lord in His mercy may look down and have pity and restore the city. Jeremiah, to whom the book is attributed, knew that praying unceasingly would move the heart of God and bring on a flow of mercy.
Look at the situation in the world, there's so much evil. Don't think that since it has not touched you today, it won't come - it will. Fear and death rule the skies above… if you don't think so, wait a while and you'll know. Destruction is around us in the form of natural air and water – polluted to the core. The food we eat is strewn with dirt and poison as pesticides and quick-ripening agents are injected into them. Cancer, aids, hypertension, diabetes and other diseases are rampant to be a burden on us. Look at the products being sold today – insurance, a product born of fear of the future is heaped upon us. Mutual funds, stocks, deposits, are screaming from the tube and newspapers to buy them so one can secure one's future and this is precisely because in every way, man has banished God from his life. Wellness products and other stuff which can keep you well and fit are being stuffed down our throats and honestly we don't know what is to happen for our eyes are not raised to the hills from where our help comes.
That is why we who know should pray and exhort others to pray. Pray unceasingly for the burden of sin is too heavy. Open the eyes of your heart and you'll feel the weight of the sin of man banishing God from his life. And pray my friend so that His wrath won't surround us so we won't be washed away and go into oblivion. Pray that He, the King of the universe will look with His mercy which is new every morning, and remember His everlasting covenant with us.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
