Thoughts for another day

May 20, 2010

Today's verse: Wisdom 10:12. She defended him from his enemies, and kept him safe from those that lay in wait, and in a sore conflict she gave him the victory; that he might know that goodness is stronger than all. (KJV – The 'she' above refers to wisdom)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

Among the greatest qualities a human can have, wisdom takes the numero uno position. Wisdom is the hallmark of ‘men in peace’ and she charts before each man the path on which he should tread. Wisdom gives him the dos and the don’ts which if he follows strictly, he’ll never have any problem in life for she considers all situations and then chalks out the right thing to do. Wisdom is the choicest of God’s ornaments upon His creation man; and it is wisdom who adorns man such that he can step up confidently before His God.

Since wisdom is highly exalted before God, He is pleased to grant it abundantly to all those who ask. Also, when we ask for wisdom, God grants other things as additional gifts. When Solomon asked for wisdom, God gave him everything else that a super king should have. Goes to show that God is pleased when we ask wisdom of Him.

Strangely, wisdom doesn’t always figure in our prayer list and that I presume is because man attaches such low premium to God’s choicest gift. We humans feel that if we want some quick funds or success in some endeavor, asking for wisdom will perhaps lengthen the process of getting what we want; which I reckon is erroneous for wisdom quickly guides us to the door of success and wealth, than anything else and anything got of wisdom stays with us; for wisdom herself bars the doors through which it can go out! Truly everything composed in our Scripture above is so true and so right of wisdom and I will only add and say, when the darkness of the night pervades your day, lean first unto God and then to wisdom and obey her instructions. For soon the clouds of despair will vanish and the rays of hope and victory will filter through.
