Thoughts for another day

Aug. 24, 2009

Today's verse: 2 Pet. 1:21. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

At some time or other you’d have heard, someone ‘prophesying’ and saying dramatic things about what will happen to you, things that will of course, please you! Now, woe be me if I say that all who prophesy are doing it to please men for there’re many who speak God’s Word in truth and what I like about these people is, they stare you in the eye and cut you with their acerbic words telling things that aren’t pleasant, though they’re from God. Look at the O T prophets, e.g. Jeremiah and particularly, ch. 28. What a contrast between Jeremiah and the other ‘prophets’.

Genuine prophecy as it comes from God is crystal clear and doesn’t have any bearing on what the message is and men of God prophesy it correctly. To be honest, I too many times am inclined to tell the people before me a certain prophecy which to be honest is in their favor. Again I then pray to God to honor my Word (expecting Him to honor it, else I’m angry with Him for not answering my prayer – a prayer which is more to affirm what I said as being from Him!) What creeps we are, so called men of God that we stoop to such levels. I must castigate myself too as I fall into the same class of people.

The True Word of God is one which as Peter says, is uttered by men when moved by the Holy Spirit. It’s meant to be a forewarning or fore-informing people about things to happen as from God. Through it these men never sought glory for themselves but for God Almighty. Today, if you are in trouble or in a situation of discomfort, I can only deliver you a Word from the Bible which is comfort giving, because His Words are eternal and just as It worked then in that situation in the Bible, it will work in your situation too; but never will I say that look in three days’ time your problems will vanish, unless in my spirit, I feel God’s Spirit telling me to tell you the same. And it is through the happening of what was prophesied, that a true prophet will be known. As for the rest of them, it’s clear, they aren’t God’s emissaries.
