Thoughts for another day
April 22, 2009.
Today's verse: Dan. 4:32b. …until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
Samson was a big man. Belonging to a very poor family and coming up the hard way, he’d realised every goal he set himself. But, his craze for wealth and power had taken him on the wrong path. Murder, plotting evil, sleaze, drugs and every dirty trait of the world was used by Samson. People hated him but envied and feared him. He loved to demonstrate his power to the detriment of his opponents and kicking them to the dust didn’t bother him one bit.
Though a Christian, Samson opposed every virtue Christ propounded, doing the exact opposite. He said Christ’s theories was for those early times; not now when ‘might was right’. An old priest often told him of the wrong he was doing asking that he mend his ways. This so irritated him that he once whisked out his gun and pointed it onto the priest’s temple threatening to shoot. The poor priest, too shocked for words, backed off. Samson continued in his ways, thinking and saying he was greater than God.
Then God struck. He was shot in the head by his opponents. Though alive, he was reduced to a vegetable on the bed, completely helpless. His friends deserted him and his close aides fled. He had money but no love. As for the money, the taxmen raided his businesses and piled heaps of cases upon him. Almost every government dept. jumped into the melee to get a pound of their flesh from the helpless guy.
The only one who came by his bedside was the same old priest. Samson felt alone and frightened. He realised now what he was. Our above verse had become reality. His defiance of God had led him to death. His condition was so bad, he couldn’t speak nor do anything to make amends. Soon Samson passed away. Of his ill gotten wealth, someone had faked papers and drawn up a false will and finally inherited it.
My friend, I’m reminded of Ps. 24:1 that to God belongs everything. The devil can imagine he’s in control and his tribe on earth may think similarly. But a day comes when God yanks them off their dirty thrones and throws them into the dirt where they belong. Today, if the pleasures of the world seem pleasant to your senses, shirk them away. God in His mercy will give you riches if you but ask and be patient. Remember, you can move God’s heart by prayer and get all you need and desire in the right manner and that will also bring peace to your being.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
