Thoughts for another day
February 24, 2009.
Today's verse: Col. 2:17. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. (NIV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)
I’ve a question for both you and me. How much of our time is spent in living with God? Better still, how much of our mindsets are occupied by God? If we were to honestly do an assessment, then we will realise that anything related to God has miniscule space with us. Moreover, things of God do not interest us as much as they should isn’t it?
Why, one might ask. The reason’s simple. There’s much happening in the world; important events begging for our attention. Things like a function in our office; or an anniversary, birthday party at home perhaps or small events in our parishes, schools, communities or cities in which we’re involved. We don’t then even want to look at anything. When my daughter had her annual day in school, you should have seen her and other children, they had time for nothing; leave alone the teachers and the principal!
We’re so caught up with the world and the unnecessary and what really matters is eclipsed by these mundane things. When Martha complained to Jesus about Mary doing nothing but sitting at His feet, Jesus reprimanded her saying there’s need of only one thing which Mary possessed! That’s God’s view concerning our business. Even prayer time is eliminated to make extra time for studies when our children have their exams! Reflecting our warped thinking: Who is the One who can control our brain or for that matter the things asked in the paper? Yet, we don’t understand and have no time for Him.
Today, our verse reminds us that all these things mean nothing. Rather the reality and the certainty is Jesus Christ. Anything associated with His glorification is important and has consequences over eternity. There’s nothing as important. Remember, tomorrow when you close your eyes one last time, you’ll come before the judgment throne. I’d shudder thinking what answer I’ll give if I’ve never made space for Him who sits on the throne! You can rest assured; He will not have time for you if you’ve not had time for Him.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
