Thoughts for another day

May 9, 2008

Today's verse: Song of Songs 2:14. let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

In Jesus we have beauty untold. His face, if you can but behold in your inner vision, is a sheer delight to behold. It is not so the handsomeness but the softness. It provides the allure to the hurting soul. Jesus’ face speaks many things: for those in distress, it speaks the confidence of victory. For those without hope, Jesus’ face springs up anticipation of a good expectation. For us who trudge and work day in and day out, Jesus’ faith holds the promise of a better life, a fuller life; a life that though lived in turmoil, is at wholesome peace.

You know, there are people who talk of the dark night that they needed to cross in their lives. Having now lived beyond it they say that they beheld the face of Jesus, which gave them the strength to go past the dark valley of shadow and death with the confidence that though a thousand fall at their side or ten thousand at their right side, yet none could harm them.

My friend, take time off today to retreat aiming to behold that gentle face of Jesus. It is just that which you want to see and should see in your moment of heaviness. And then wait to hear His voice. His voice is enough to quicken the sinews and bones and souls of the dead, just as it did Lazarus over 2000 years ago. His voice still and always will cut across the storm and reach out to you and quicken you. When His voice comes, the sea under your feet will cease to be a hindrance as it solidifies and you will trample on it, the way Peter did when Jesus beckoned, ‘come’ Mt. 14:29.

We can go on and on about the awesome nature of Jesus‘ countenance and His voice, but for the moment, let’s just break free and look up and with our entire hearts tell Him, ‘Lord, let me see thy face and hear Thy voice…’ See, if He doesn’t come quick and fast to you.
