Thoughts for another day

Aug. 31, 2007

Today's verse: Eze. 16:62-63. So I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am the LORD. Then, when I make atonement for you for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your humiliation, declares the Sovereign LORD.' (NIV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

After creating the world, God looked at it and was pleased. Since I am so small before His awesome mind, I may not but only dare to guess what He might have thought at that moment: ‘This puny creature of mine will be hard put in most things so I must tell Him what He needs to do and support His actions with My Power and My Word of promise.’ That’s the beginning of the flow of covenants that God established with man and it began with ‘Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it…Gen. 1:28.

God loves covenants and at every defining stage He covenanted with the person who had favor in His sight. Our covenant giving God finally gave us His covenant through Jesus Christ His Son, in Whom and through Him, He established His kingdom.

Unfortunately, man has never kept covenants in the way God has kept them, breaking them again and again. It was as if a covenant meant nothing. God was not pleased and He destroyed those who had scant respect for His covenants. Yet later, God being the merciful One that He is changed His mind and forgave and kept the tenets of the covenant, which was sacred in His sight.

Today’s verse reflects this nature of God in the aspects of covenanting; of forgiving us for breaking His covenant and pulling us back to Him. And God knows that when His Spirit comes on us, we are changed and that’s why He says ‘you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of because of your humiliation…’ Let us check whether we have experienced this in our lives.
