Thoughts for another day

July 31, 2007

Today's verse: Amos 8:11. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

A thing I have noticed among many Christians is the scant respect for the Word of God. Bible reading is almost zero as far as many people are concerned and even with those who read, it is like moving quickly toward the finish. Like most of these programs we have – read the Bible in one year and then they give us advise on how many chapters we must read and which Books etc. But, this way of reading to ‘finish’ reading the Bible is no good for anyone. God is not pleased and therefore the truth of God’s Word is hidden and hence there is no power.

My friend, we are indeed privileged to have His Word available to us so easily. And we must find the time to read the word. Even a simple passage can change our lives for it is not our strength but His power present in His Word. There are many who have with just a Word, been changed. Their lives have taken a 180-degree turn and they have moved from being their old selves and become a new creation.

If you have, a Bible in your cupboard, etc. take it out today and give it the honor due by reading it. It will do much good to your soul. It’s best we do it quickly lest the Word of God (today’s verse) catch up and become reality. Then it will be too late. We will never be able to know our God nor fellowship with Him and consequently lead defeated lives. There are already many who are leading such lives. The tragedy is that they do not know. But as far as we are concerned, let’s rise up and pay homage to the Word of God with all our hearts and He will make it a reality in our lives.
