Thoughts for another day

April 20, 2007

Today's verse: Gen 28:16. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. (KJV)
(Pls. read the above before you read further. Thanks)

How true is the above verse in our lives too is it not? We might not have seen a dream as did Jacob, but God gave us a powerful experience of His presence and jolted us from our reverie. Yet how scarcely do we recognise Him, who is our Lord and attribute our defining moments to His Grace. The irony is that we also say like Jacob, ‘I know it not!’

Jacob had a defining moment at Bethel enroute to His uncle Laban’s home. God chose to give him an experience of Himself in a dream and it was really awesome. When He woke up, He sensed God’s presence and set up a memorial stone. Taking a cue from Jacob, we too, must set up an indelible memorial insignia of God’s presence in our lives so that at the time of tribulation and insecurity, we must remember that God is on our side.

In the dream God tells Jacob, ‘Know that I am with you wherever you go…’ so too my friend, if you believe in Him, He becomes what He became to Jacob. A Father and a Guardian. In fact even more is His eagerness to become that today because of His Son’s Name in which we place our petitions at His feet. All He requires us to do to delight us is that we praise Him and yield to His will, shunning sin and loving our neighbor.
