Thoughts for another day
April 28, 2006
Today's verse: Is 14:24. Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand: (KJV).
‘Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.’ You find Jesus saying this in the Gospels. And it leads one to ponder upon its meaning? Mere words, as we think they are, can remain forever? Even, more than the time of the earth?!!! Reflect and you will see the difficulty in comprehension. About Heaven, we know not much. But about earth – well, scientists tell us that it existed millions of years! So Jesus tells us that it too shall not be permanent but His Words will. Becomes a trite difficult to believe no?
But if you are in the Lord, there is no difficulty. God’s Words are God Himself. Jesus Christ is the Word of God. John says in his Gospel, ‘In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God; and the Word was God.’ God is eternal. So therefore, His Word – Jesus Christ is eternal and that is why, Jesus can say, ‘Heaven and earth shall pass away but My Words remain.’
Which then means that everything that God has said, has to happen and Isaiah aptly reflects this in the above verse. My dear child of God, remember God has made a number of promises in His Word, which are the elixir of life for us. Avail of those words. Take God at His promise. He will not fail. God is a faithful God and He will do exactly as His Word promises. His Word as it is spoken is like a bullet that is fired from a gun. It will do its work. When you are down in the dumps ‘Cast your burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain you’ Ps. 55:22. That is a fair promise and for God His promise or His Word is His nature. He will accomplish it. He will sustain you. Don’t define your parameters as to how He should sustain, rather rely on His ways for He knows best. Only remember, He will deliver. And there is nothing impossible for Him.
Have you felt the whiff of cool air as it brings in much needed showers on a hot summer afternoon? Have you tasted a small bit of bread after hours and days of not having had anything? Have you experienced the satisfaction of an intense need being met? My friend, Jesus Christ can give you this satisfaction and much more. Now is the time to bring Him into your life. Just say, 'Lord Jesus, I believe in you. Come into my life right now. Heal my sin. Heal everything.'
